So far this is great. This overview has been the perfect supplement to the intro to storyboarding I took at school. The nice thing about this is the visual examples showing demonstrating each concept – especially the arrows. I never could wrap my head around those arrows and use them successfully.
    Thanks, Brew

Just watched this again (I have a storyboarding exercise for school), It’s a great lesson with some really cool analogies and WHACK, I’ll never forget it πŸ™‚

On a different note, we just started storyboarding at my school and I was thinking about showing this video to my class (My lecturer has already used most of the stuff you put on deviantart). However I wasn’t sure from an ethical stand point because I’ve paid for it, but they haven’t and it is available if they’re willing to pay for it. So I thought the best solution is to just ask you (after all they are your videos, not mine) so can I show my class this one or is it better (would you prefer) I just recommend your DVDs? – I won’t show it without your permission!

    Thanks Alan

PS I think I should mention, I understand there is a difference between showing and giving, my intention is to show, just this video and if they want to see the rest they’ll have to buy them

HI Alan — how about this? Feel free to show the first DVD in your class, and I would love to get an email comment from your teacher about how the class enjoyed the video πŸ™‚

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like I’ll get a chance to show it, we’ve had a postal strike that lasted a month and a half and then they ovbiously had a back log to take care of, and so I just got your DVDs today. Thank you very much indeed :), the wait made it that much better and thanks especially for the signed Spongebob sketch, made my day!!! – I’m going to frame it!
Anyway we finished storyboarding at school a few weeks ago and are quite busy with background design before we start animation which is the main section in the course so I don’t know if I’ll get an opportunity to show it:(

      • Sherm

Wow — that’s amazing that the backlog has lasted so long…that postal strike was months ago! Well, I’m glad it finally arrived πŸ™‚

  4. Hei Sherm !

Today I received the Dvd package, and …what a surprise !!… with a piece of Spongebob original artwork. Thank you very much !!

I worked in traditional animation from 1999 to 2004. After some years working in an advertising agency designing awful advertisings and websites I returned into animation doing Flash and digital animation for school courses. In 2010 I moved to Norway and one year later I participated in the production of a Flash animated serie for the norwegian tv. Actually I do my own animated projects in my free time while I’m searching for new animated opportunities.

I would like to expand my knowledge and this course can be perfect for this ! Besides that there are more job opportunities in the field of storyboard.

Sherm, thanks so much for being such a great artist and teacher. I’m revisiting these videos years later as I map out my short. You and this website is by far one of the best investments an artist can contribute to πŸ™‚
