What’s your thoughts about aspect ratio?
I’m personally a fan of the traditional 4:3, I feel like comedies play better because subjects can move in and out of frame easily/quickly and there are less distractions on the screen.
Do you think the aspect ratio is an important consideration when making the boards?
For example, maybe choosing a wider aspect for epic shots? Or should I focus on what is a more popular/film spec aspect ratio that is used today and work around the limitations it might bring?
Mr Bean movies are a interesting example of how they had to work around the wide aspect ratio in a comedy film. I noticed there were a lot of foreground placements on the sides and bottom to draw the viewer to Mr Bean. Where as the TV series didn’t really have that problem.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts and insights,
Thanks for your time!
